About this product:
This DVD contains every surviving film ever made by Winsor McCay, one of the greatest and most influential artists in the history of animation. Winsor McCay (1871-1934) was a pioneer in animation, first touring the vaudeville circuit in 1906 with some of his work, eventually developing his world-famous comic strip characters into the animated cartoons "Little Nemo" (1911) and "Gertie the Dinosaur" (1914). Transferred from the Cinemath?que Quebecoise 35mm archival prints, this DVD compilation contains all ten of McCay's existing films. Also included is the story of how these historic reels were discovered rusting away in a garage, eventually rescued two decades later from any further decay. Much of his work had long been forgotten, but now he is once again highly regarded as the early innovator of animation.
