Best friends Mitch and Elizabeth make a pact in college that if they are both single ten years after graduation, they will marry each other. Ten years pass and the still-single Mitch, realizing he still has feelings for Elizabeth, embarks on a cross-country journey to her hometown to follow through on their pact.
