At first, the anime series Noein: To Your Other Self revolves around a fairly standard unexpected-young-hero plot. The stage is set when 12-year-old Haruka and her friend Yuu are approached by strangers from the future who tell Haruka that she is the key to saving the universe from annihilation at the hands of a Nihilistic group called Shangri-La.
