Ignoring the protests of her millionaire father, Doris Maynard elopes with the family chauffeur, Dan Simmons. He turns out to be a complete wastrel, stealing her jewelry to pay his gambling debts, and forging her father's name on bad checks. When Simmons is reported killed in an auto crash, the unhappy socialite is spared the scandal of a divorce. Several years pass and she finds true happiness by marrying up-and-coming District Attorney Donald Thorne. But Simmons is alive, and reappears to blackmail Doris. When the extortionist is found shot dead, she finds herself accused of murder.
